The programme, which is a one-year postgraduate degree, examines the roles of media and communication in development issues. It evaluates the strategic application of communication and media tools in enhancing the goals of social, cultural, as well as political change. The first section of the programme explores various approaches, models, and strategies of development communication, from theoretical and historical perspectives.
The second section focuses attention on some critical selected fields of development communication such as poverty, hunger, health, gender, environment, and sustainability. Students will then explore emerging and alternative strategies of communicating social change. They will produce case studies and design communication strategies, which address development issues informed by global, national, or local perspective.
At the end of the course, students will:
Exhibit deep understanding of the theory and history of the role of communication in development.
Evaluate strategic application of communication and media tools in development goals.
Produce case studies on contemporary perspectives on development communication
Engage strategies of communicating social change on various development issues from a local, national, and global perspective.
Design and present research project in development communication.
